This adventure started with friend Karen taking us to the Airport on Saturday the 13th of July picking us up from our condominium in West Central Spokane. We had partially packed our bags a week or so before, so we were pretty confident that we had thought of most things. Computers. The plan was to pack fairly lightly with enough meds and vits for 2 1/2 months in Europe. Walt with a computer and electronics in a new specifically designed backpack and a large suitcase. Peggy had a Ryan Air sized carry-on (small) and a moderate sized suitcase. We had heard of recent experience from friends that Spokane's airport is entering the the long queues and almost missing flights league. So armed with this info, we arrived an hour before we usually would and so were disappointed that for us it was the same Spokane with about an hour of sitting around waiting for the plane's arrival. Otherwise, everything was pleasant and enjoyed a non-eventful Alaska Q400 1 hour journey to Seattle, with the usual wait for luggage and then hike the 1/2 mile to the light rail train to SODO station. We had a little 1/4 mile walk to the bus we knew went to West Seattle where our son, Karl, lives. Since he was having fun on the coast, we had the run of his house.
